Medical Prompt: FFI

Today we have…


Fatal Familial Insomnia, or FFI, is disease with those really weird pathogens called prions. (See another prompt explaining those here.) By definition, it’s inherited (and very rare), but there’s also a version that can occur spontaneously.

This affliction can rear its ugly head just about any time during adulthood, early or late. Once it crops up, the victim can last from about half a year to three years. As you might expect, the disease starts with insomnia and gets worse and worse. Of course, all of the symptoms stem from the insomnia. These include (in order of progression of disease)
